One of my favorite travel website/apps is Kayak.com. Kayak is especially good for flights and car rentals. One new feature they have for flights is their “hacker fares”, see screen below.
What is a “Hacker fare?” Kayak automatically searches to see if they can beat the lowest roundtrip price (and save you money) by looking for two cheaper one-way flights, even if they are with different airlines. If you search for “include nearby” airports, they also check for cheaper one-way flights to other area airports. For example, see the above hacker fare that found a cheaper deal by flying from Chicago (ORD) into LA (LAX) and flying out of Santa Ana (SNA).
